South Jersey Women Celebrate the Power of Female Philanthropy at \u201cWhy We Give,\u201d A Women\u2019s History Month Event<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mt. Laurel \u2013 February 20, 2020–South Jersey women give a lot, in ways that are as boundless as they are visionary. On the morning of March 20, women will gather for \u201cWhy We Give,\u201d an event that explore what makes female philanthropy unique. It\u2019s the first symposium of South Jersey women\u2019s organizations that have philanthropy and volunteerism as part of their mission. Representatives from a wide range of collective giving groups, family foundations, social groups, sororities and nonprofits are participating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keynote Speaker Dr. Debra Mesch, Women’s Philanthropy Institute<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Keynote speaker Dr. Debra Mesch of the Lilly School of Philanthropy & Women\u2019s Philanthropy Institute at Indiana University will discuss the powerful impact of women\u2019s movements, and ways women\u2019s giving differs from men\u2019s. Two panels, \u201cWhy We Give\u201d and \u201cHow We Give,\u201d will showcase a diverse mix of local women\u2019s giving initiatives and foundations and provide insights into how and why investing time, talent and treasure can strengthen communities. Jennifer Lewis-Hall, WPHL17 community relations manager and anchor of \u201cIn Focus\u201d will moderate the panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are many communities of women quietly making a difference in South Jersey. Unfortunately, they don\u2019t know that each other exist.  We hope to introduce them and open the door for potential collaboration and greater impact,\u201d says Kyle Ruffin, chair of \u201cWhy We Give.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keynote speaker Dr. Debra J. Mesch is an expert on the role of gender in philanthropy. She holds the Eileen Lamb O\u2019Gara Chair in Women\u2019s Philanthropy at Indiana University and studies the factors that shape gender-based giving patterns such as age, religion, income, marital status and more.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panelists include representatives from Alpha Kappa Alpha, Theta Pi Omega Chapter, Continental Societies, Inc. SJ Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. South Jersey Alumnae Chapter, Hindu American Foundation, Impact 100 South Jersey, Moms Demand Action, Jewish Community Foundation, Jewish Family & Children Services of SNJ, Pascale Sykes Foundation, and Thrive Public Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closing remarks will be given by June Grushka-Rosen, M.Ed., founder and CEO of ExtraordinarYou and The Extraordinary Women\u2019s League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Women\u2019s History Month event is a partnership of diverse local groups that include Impact100 South Jersey, Moms Demand Action, the Jewish Community Foundation, India Temple Association, Continental Societies SJ Chapter, Jewish Family & Children Services and Community Foundation of South Jersey and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
